Mobile cranes with certified operators.
BrightRig operates a fleet covering every common crane hire scenario across South Africa. The right crane depends on three things: the weight of your load, the height it needs to reach, and the radius — how far horizontally the crane needs to reach from where it can safely stand.
Here's what's available:
Not sure what you need? Call us with the weight, dimensions, and height of the lift. We'll recommend the right crane.
Every job has different requirements, but here are typical daily rates for crane hire across South Africa. All rates include a certified crane operator.
What's included: Certified operator, crane mobilisation to site within the local metro area, standard rigging slings and shackles, and a lift plan for complex jobs.
What may cost extra: Rigging accessories for non-standard loads, road closure permits, extended travel outside the Cape Town metro, and standby time exceeding 30 minutes.
Projects exceeding 5 days typically qualify for reduced daily rates. View our full pricing guide →

For projects in remote locations, a mobilisation charge applies based on distance. Contact us for a quote that includes transport to your site.
From first call to crane on site, here's what happens:
If the crane needs to operate on or obstruct a public road, you'll need a temporary road closure permit from the relevant local municipality. BrightRig handles the permit application as part of the project planning — it typically takes 5–10 working days.
For operations on private property, no municipal permit is required. However, a lift plan must be prepared in compliance with the Driven Machinery Regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. We include this as standard on every project.
Crane hire prices in South Africa ranges widely from R4,000 per day for a mobile crane to R20,000+ per day for heavy-lift cranes over 100 tons. Price depends on tonnage, duration, location, and whether rigging accessories are needed. All BrightRig rates include a certified crane operator.
Crane size depends on three factors: the weight of the load, the height it needs to reach, and the radius (horizontal distance) from where the crane can stand. A 5-ton crane lifts rooftop HVAC units and signage. A 25-ton crane handles most industrial machinery. A 50-ton crane covers steel structures and heavy plant. For loads over 50 tons, call us with the weight, dimensions, and height — we'll recommend the right crane within five minutes.
We serve major cities and industrial hubs nationwide, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha), East London, Bloemfontein, Richards Bay, and surrounding regions. A mobilisation charge applies for remote sites — contact us for a quote that includes transport to your location.
For standard bookings, we typically can deploy within 24–48 hours of confirming a quote. Emergency crane hire is available — contact us for same-day availability. Larger cranes (80+ ton) may require 3–5 days for mobilisation depending on current fleet deployment.
